Indoor activities for the rainy Tampa summer days.
It’s getting to that time of the summer when the sun starts to disappear and rain becomes more and more likely every day. While this might be a nice break from the unrelenting heat, it can put a damper on outdoor summer activities. But there’s still plenty of indoor fun to be had around Tampa as well. Here’s a reference guide of indoor entertainment and activities for the days when Florida is less like the Sunshine State and more like the stormy one.
Indoor Skydiving
iFLY Tampa | 10654 Palm River Rd. | 813-773-4359
2 Flights for $59.95
Indoor skydiving is a thrilling way to get your kids off the couch and give yourself a little bit of an adrenaline rush. iFly is one of the many indoor skydiving places in Tampa that offers packages for first time flyers — no weather permitting disclaimer required.
Cooking Classes
Sur la Table | 711 S. Dakota Ave. | (813) 253-3063
$300 for five kids classes, adult classes vary ($75-$95 per class)
Prepare for your next summer soiree with some gourmet cooking classes while it rains. Sur la Table in Hyde Park is offering a variety of classes through the rest of the summer ranging from kid-friendly bake shop lessons to girls nights out and wine pairing specials.
Trampoline Parks
Sky Zone | 10137 E. Adamo Dr. | (813) 833-1740
Tickets for their Glow Party start at $22.95
Trampoline parks are a great way to spend the day out of the rain and tire out any stir-crazy kids. While they do offer open jump times, Sky Zone specializes in parties and overnight lock-ins that may appeal more to older teens. They also have multiple climbing walls and a foam pit.
Rock Climbing
Vertical Ventures | 5402 Pioneer Park Blvd., Suite E | (813) 884-7625
Adult day pass $16, kids $12
Florida may be flat, but that doesn’t mean that climbing isn’t an option. Rock climbing gyms are similar to trampolines parks in that they’ll keep you active while providing some kind of snack bar for refueling, and you can usually pay a flat rate for admission for the day.
(Editor’s note, the Pioneer Park location is closed. New location in 116 18th St S, St. Petersburg is open)
Escape Rooms
The Great Escape Room | 300 Madison St. #301 | (813) 586-0914
Tickets vary depending on room ($20 – $30)
Escape rooms are becoming more and more popular and, because of that, we’ve got a ton of options in Tampa. This one is a Sherlock Holmes-themed company in downtown that will send you on a harrowing journey of puzzle-solving and scavenger hunting that’ll make you feel like a true sleuth.
Painting and Pottery
Painting with a Twist | 2821 S. MacDill Ave | (813) 839-2409
Seats cost around $30 – $45
Color Me Mine | 730 S. Village Circle | (813) 258-8368
Prices vary depending on piece
Everyone needs a creative outlet, but we don’t all have the right supplies. These places will set you up with everything you need to create a rainy day masterpiece, whether it’s a mug to hold your favorite source of caffeine or a painting for your kid to hang proudly on their wall.
Skate Parks
Skatepark of Tampa | 4215 E. Columbus Dr. | (813) 621-6793
Prices vary ($8 – $10 for non-members)
While you may have counted out skateparks because most of them are open to the elements, this particular one in Tampa is mostly indoors. This includes mini-ramps, street courses for all levels, and its famous bowl. Make sure to still bring helmets and pads though: the fall indoors is just as hard.
