One of the final pieces of the Tampa Marriott Water Street’s renovation, the new restaurant Anchor and Brine recently opened to more effectively connect the hotel with the Riverwalk. Like at its sister restaurant Garrison Tavern, the seafood-focused menu was designed by chef and restaurateur Richard Sandoval. Anchor and Brine features a raw bar, plus seafood towers with oysters, clams, lobsters, scallops and shrimp. Elsewhere on the menu, dishes incorporate Florida seafood (snapper with calamari, bacon and potatoes) and chef-cut steaks. Cocktails break down into three main categories — spritzes, martinis and daiquiris — and are customizable. Choose your spirit, botanical (like a fruit peel or herb) and tonic from the bar’s curated list to create your own drink. A happy hour menu will launch in October. Anchor and Brine’s back patio, including a bar, opens up to the waterfront and is accessible to the Riverwalk; making the back of the hotel more welcoming to pedestrians and passersby was a key part of the Marriott’s strategy behind the renovations. The hotel recently marked its official relaunch after refurbishing its guest rooms, lobby, meeting spaces and dining offerings. In addition to Anchor and Brine and Garrison Tavern, the Marriott also opened a full-service Starbucks.
