Dr. Owen is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon with more than 25 years of experience in adult cardiac surgery. He specializes in minimally invasive cardiac surgery and uses techniques that avoid cutting the breastbone, leading to less pain, reduced blood loss and a quicker return to normal physical activity.

Since 2009, Dr. Owen has used this approach to perform mitral valve repair or replacement, aortic valve replacement, the maze procedure for atrial fibrillation, and numerous other procedures traditionally performed using conventional open heart surgery. He also has extensive experience with transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and transcatheter mitral repair (mTEER) for patients best treated using catheter-based techniques.

Dr. Owen practices at HCA Florida Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg, where he serves as medical director for cardiothoracic surgery.
