Recent additions to the City of Tampa’s Public Art Collection include the monumental sculpture “Open House” at the City Center at Hanna Avenue. Created by Area C Projects, the Rhode Island-based husband-and-wife team of Erik Carlson and Ericka Carpenter, “Open House” serves as a metaphor for community and civic growth.

The sculpture is comprised of house silhouettes rendered in vibrant panels evocative of Tampa’s sunsets — fiery oranges, brilliant yellows and breathtaking pinks. Sea-glass green panels, like the color of the Gulf, complement the warm colors presented in “Open House.” At night, the illuminated sculpture highlights inscriptions of familiar street names such as Bay to Bay, Floribraska, Hillsborough and Howard. A spirited sculpture, “Open House” celebrates the neighborhoods that comprise our city.
