Ciji Castro is the foodie mastermind behind Domestic Gourmet, a lifestyle brand that caters to the sophisticated and discerning individual who values quality, exclusivity, and indulgence. Primarily known for digital content that specializes in food and wine, the brand’s food photography and videos include coverage of Michelin-rated restaurants and have been featured by some of the most prestigious luxury hotel brands, including Four Seasons and The Ritz Carlton.

As a female founder in the food industry, Castro reports facing some challenges early on due to her self-proclaimed “voluptuousness” and being a female in her “non-20s.” To gain access to exclusive restaurants and events, she had to be assertive and persistent, being sure to lead with her strong portfolio.

“I knew I could bring value by showcasing the passion and hard work that goes into creating delicious meals by highlighting the story behind the chef and what makes a restaurant unique and desirable,” says Castro. “Food isn’t just about taste, but it’s also about the experience and the emotion it evokes. I don’t let stereotypes or ageism keep me from pursuing my passion.”

Today, Castro spends hours editing videos and recording voiceovers for her various media outlets. She asserts that access to good food should be available to everyone, so she founded domesticgourmet.com, a website where she shares recipes that cater to gourmand families.

“I believe cooking is an excellent way to bring families together, so I include notes on how to involve children of all ages in the cooking process on my recipe cards,” says Castro proudly.

Castro speaks with gratitude about the opportunity to get paid to do what she loves. She is excited to expand the brand to include high-end cookware, exclusive dining and travel experiences, clothes, jewelry, and events.

Castro is also an ambassador for the Endometriosis Foundation of America and their youth program, ENPOWR.
