The story behind Hits! The Musical begins in Tampa with Director Cynthia Nekvasil, who started Entertainment Revue in 1989. Over the years, it produced many recording artists and Broadway stars. Entertainment Revue’s success made a lasting impression on Tampa businessman and philanthropist Bob Gries. Nekvasil’s ex-husband felt it was time to take the essence of her local show and turn it into a national musical sensation.
The cast of 29, ages 10 to 22, was selected from a nationwide audition of more than 7,000 individuals. Their talent is exceptional, and the energy is unsurpassed. The show takes you through a journey of the decades with genres like Pop, Hollywood and Rock from the 1960s to present day. The show also features 500 costume changes, along with lighting by Carrie Underwood’s set & lighting designer.
