Terry Ward has been a travel writer and freelance journalist since 2001 and has been to every continent except Antarctica. Before settling in Tampa, she lived in France, Australia and New Zealand—experiences that continue to shape her palate. While Mexican food is what she misses most when she’s outside the U.S., Asian cuisine holds her heart, spanning Japanese, Thai, Laotian and Vietnamese dishes, with a particular fondness for Indonesian and Balinese flavors.
Terry has no dietary restrictions or allergies and describes herself as firmly savory over sweet. She’ll happily eat just about anything—“feed me anything but innards (okay, except foie gras), and I’m a happy girl.” When dessert rolls around, she’s skipping cake or ice cream in favor of a cheese course every time.
A creature of habit when it comes to coffee, Ward never starts her day without it—black, no sugar. The exception? Time spent in Australia or New Zealand, where she opts for an oat milk flat white with a double shot of espresso. Her default cocktail order typically involves spicy margaritas or mezcalitos, which she chooses without hesitation from every menu.
