The sidewalks of Tampa Bay come alive at sunrise and sunset, filled with sneakers pounding the pavement, laughter echoing and new friendships forming in the cities’ thriving running and walking clubs. Historic clubs like Tampa Bay Runners traces its roots back to the early 1980s, fostering communitythrough inclusive, all-level runs. Today, a new wave of clubs emphasizes connection and social wellness, helping locals build friendships, stay active and explore local trails and businesses, all without competitive pressure. Whether you’re chasing the early- morning sunrise or winding down with a post-run beer, Tampa Bay’s running scene is no longer just about mileage; it’s about connection.
Launched on a whim in June 2025, Tampa Run Club 4 MFs That Don’t Run has exploded into one of the city’s most dynamic social fitness movements. What began with 28 people and a catchy name surged after a pair of viral TikToks, drawing more than 1,200 participants to its largest meetup.

Founder L.A. Ayala built the club around approachability and energy: “I wanted people to feel comfortable getting outside. Our vibe is definitely social. We have everyone from serious runners to the ‘walk and yap’ crowd.
Everyone is welcome and usually meets up at the end for a drink or just to socialize.”
The weekly routes shift across Tampa’s busiest hubs, supporting local vendors and packing out host locations. With new chapters in Orlando and St. Petersburg and expanded social events, the club is quickly becoming a regional phenomenon.

These social walking and running clubs are popular across the bridge as well. Pinellas Run Club has quickly become one of St. Pete’s most vibrant fitness communities, growing from a few friends meeting for casual miles to more than 2,000 runners each month. Founder Brandee Thomas says the club was born from a love of movement, connection and supporting local businesses.
“Come for the miles, stay for the community,” she says. “You’ll see walkers next to marathoners, dogs, strollers and high-fives everywhere. It’s less about pace and more about people.”
The club’s inclusive culture reflects the region’s outdoor lifestyle and appetite for community-driven activities. With rotating routes, a focus on safety and strong ties to neighborhood spots, the club continues to fuel friendships and energize St. Petersburg ’s local scene.

Whether you’re a first-time walker or a seasoned marathoner, Tampa Bay’s running scene has a path for every pace and personality. Clubs range from casual walking and running groups to women-only circles, youth programs that build confidence through movement, and niche communities focused on wellness, empowerment or shared interests. Together, they show that running here isn’t just about logging miles; it’s about connection and community, one of the greatest things about our cities!
