FloridaRAMA continues to reign as one of the best art experiences in the Tampa Bay area. Located in St. Petersburg’s Warehouse District, FloridaRAMA celebrates Florida’s unique history and traditions, as well as its exotic flora and fauna in wondrous interactive art installations. Each gallery, like the Mermaid Star Hotel (pictured), encourages visitors to “please touch” and engage with artist projects that celebrate mermaids, seashells, strawberries, panthers and pirates—iconography distinct to our region.
Current installations include “Cabana Confessional,” a quiet dwelling with illuminated infinity mirrors to spark the reveal of visitors’ secrets and wishes. Central to FloridaRAMA’s mission is to support local creative makers or artists with ties to Florida at various stages of their careers. The “Diorama Room” highlights several of the region’s innovative artists with evocative and playful vignettes of Florida’s shorelines and landscapes.
Joanna Robotham is the Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Tampa Museum of Art.
