Collectors typically fall into two categories: eccentric, sociable types who appreciate the process, or others who hard stall at the finish line. Marcy and Jim Baker get it. They know what they like and respect the game. They’ve transcended collector status with grace and shown how art enthusiasts can become honest friends of a gallery. As their savviness has evolved, their tastes have proven exceptional.
This set of paintings by Mexican artist Hilda Palafox (@poni) set the stage early on in their collection. These 27.5-inch by 39.25-inch oil/canvas works, titled “Encuentros Cercanos I (Pez) & III (Anguila),” are perfect examples of Palafox’s use of the female figure, which she often focuses on as a tool of expression.
