You Belong Here, 2019
Installed above Sparkman Wharf, Tavares Strachan’s monumental text-based neon sculpture proclaims You Belong Here. Born in Nassau, Bahamas, Strachan’s open-ended artistic practice often includes allegories that tell of cultural displacement, human aspiration and mortal limitations. You Belong Here is an anthem for the political and cultural moment and is designed to mobilize community and inspire societal transformation. Strategic Property Partners commissioned this public art sculpture with consultation from USF Graphicstudio’s advisory team. Strachan is represented by the Marian Goodman Gallery in New York.
