You may go to the dentist every six months for your cleanings, but sometimes that simply isn’t enough to meet your dental needs. At Tampa Bay Smile Makers, Dr. Michael McNeill and his team offer custom, long-lasting hybrid implants (or implant-supported dentures) to replace missing teeth and restore full functionality to your smile.

“Your teeth were designed to last a lifetime, but sometimes they don’t,” Dr. McNeill says. “Replacing missing teeth is important to your general health and to the health of your other teeth. Not only do you lose chewing ability when a tooth is lost, but unreplaced teeth can cause other teeth to be lost, tipped or crowded and create subsequent problems. Also, there are the obvious problems of poor appearance and loss of self-esteem caused by one or more missing teeth.”

Dental implants are substitutes for the roots of missing teeth. They act as an anchor for a replacement tooth or “crown” or a set of replacement teeth. Implants are also considered more predictable than bridgework and resin bonded bridges, and they are a good next step in dental treatment if a root canal fails.

When considering implants, Dr. McNeill first uses a cutting-edge 3D CAT scanner to get a realistic rendering of a patient’s jaw, helping him plan the best treatment options for each person.

“Implants may be the right choice for anyone missing one or more or even all of their teeth due to injury, disease or decay,” Dr. McNeill says.

One of Dr. McNeill’s newest treatment options is immediate, or same-day, implants, which can be placed the same day a tooth is removed. Dr. McNeill offers a wide range of cosmetic dental treatment options, including veneers, crowns, bonding and tooth reshaping. His practice also includes Dr. T. Gregory Jacobs, an in-house, board-certified prosthodontist who specializes in complex dental implant cases.
