The idea behind the new Ybor City restaurant and bar 7th + Grove is pretty simple: Eat. Vibe. Flourish. To help their guests accomplish those goals, co-owners Vondalyn Crawford, Jamaris Glenn and Khalilaa McDuffie partnered with chef James Roberts and mixologist Kelvin Williams on the spacious concept, which features an eatery on one side and lounge on the other. Roberts’ food is straight-up Southern, with inspiration coming from regions like Louisiana, Georgia and the Carolinas. Each dish is named after a song, resulting in signature dishes like the “C.R.E.A.M.” (that’s “Cornbread Rules Everything Around Me,” topped with a sweet and spicy crema), “Everyday People” shrimp and grits, “Awaken My Love” fried chicken, and “Can We Talk” blackened turkey with sweet potato mash. Craft cocktails are strong (a two-ounce pour or more in each drink) and created with handmade syrups and cold-pressed juices the bar team squeezes each day. 7th + Grove offers a social hour from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, with $7 cocktails and small plates, plus a late-night menu and brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
