Matthew Ong wants to expand your understanding of Thai food. The owner of Ybor City’s Asiatic Street Food & Noodle Bar says most people don’t think beyond Phad Thai (an alternative spelling) when they consider southeast Asian cuisine. “Thai food features many unique dishes and varieties that you may have never had before or even known about,” Ong adds.
Asiatic focuses on both Asian hawker — or street food — fare and traditional Thai dishes, like noodles and noodle bowls, roasted duck, barbecue pork, fish and seafood, and curries that incorporate a wide range of flavors to give diners an authentic culinary experience. Despite Asiatic’s embrace of classical cooking styles, the restaurant’s modern, laidback vibe fits right in with Tampa’s blossoming urban core, complete with a wine and sake bar.
