The full renovation of the Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina (which has been renamed the Tampa Marriott Water Street) has been a somewhat quieter part of the massive Water Street project, but even locals can take advantage of the property’s new additions. Garrison Tavern has replaced Champions as the hotel’s upscale sports bar, complete with a totally updated dark wood and navy blue look and an all-new menu, courtesy of celebrity chef Richard Sandoval. “Food to me is a very social experience, and at Garrison Tavern, our emphasis is on re-energizing familiar dishes and presenting them in a way that creates community and social connection — sharing with those around you,” Sandoval said in a statement. Menu options include the Butcher’s Burgers — made with Florida beef ground by an on-site butcher — fried chicken wings in four flavors, crispy beer-battered grouper, and an array of sandwiches and sliders. The star of the restaurant’s craft beer lineup is Garrison Kolsch, brewed by Coppertail Brewing exclusively for Garrison Tavern. Coppertail describes the beer as “Florida-inspired with a delicate, light fruity flavor and a dry, medium hoppy finish.” Beyond TVs (and there are plenty of them, both indoors and above the outdoor patio facing Amalie Arena), Garrison Tavern also has Florida’s first Topgolf Swing Suite. With two bays (which can be reserved ahead of time by the hour), guests can try their hand more than just golf. Available virtual games include dodgeball, hockey and baseball.
