After a two-year stint on the trendy Bleecker Street in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, fashion industry veteran (and Tampa Bay-area native) Sunni Spencer opened her namesake boutique in Hyde Park Village at the end of May. The shop carries unique beach-ready resortwear, swimsuits, coverups, bags and accessories from brands like Onia, Bird and Knoll, Bembien, and Poolside. For Spencer, who had lived in the New York area for more than two decades, the combination of family and warm weather was a powerful draw back to Tampa. She says the boutique’s focus on summer styles should resonate more with a region who lives in a sort of perma-vacation mode. “With a warm-weather shop, in New York it was nice four months out of the year,” Spencer says. “People would come in and say ‘I love this, I wish I was going on vacation.’” Sunni Spencer is located on the bottom floor of the village’s new Snow Avenue building.
