Translated as the “fifth of May,” Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. In Mexico, the holiday is primarily observed in Puebla with parades and historical reenactments. Here in Tampa Bay it’s celebrated through festivals, events and food specials across the region.
