Allison Wilkins, affectionately known as “Ms. Alli” to generations of families, has spent more than two decades helping infants, toddlers and parents discover connection through music. As the founder of Allisongs for Tots, she leads weekly classes from her Hyde Park studio, teaching more than 40 original songs she has written to engage both children and adults.
A Pittsburgh native, Wilkins credits an early appearance on Fred Rogers’ television program at WQED with shaping her teaching philosophy. Like Rogers, she approaches children with respect and intention, speaking to them as capable individuals while encouraging creativity and emotional connection.
“We approach music differently than many traditional toddler classes. Allisongs for Tots original music can be enjoyed by adults as well as children and features more sophisticated genres-such as jazz, swing, reggae, rap, foreign languages and eclectic sounds,” Wilkins says.
An author of two children’s books, “Monsters Are Afraid of Music” and “Angels Watching Over Me,” Wilkins blends storytelling with a variety of sophisticated musical genres. At her core, Wilkins believes music connects families across generations and encourages others to embrace growth at every stage.
