Steve Yerrid has a national reputation as one of the best trial lawyers in the country. In Florida’s landmark litigation against Big Tobacco, he was the youngest of the 11 trial lawyers selected by the late Governor Lawton Chiles as Florida’s “Dream Team.” He was appointed and acted as Special Counsel to Governor Crist during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill disaster. He also obtained the largest settlement amount for a municipality in his representation of the City of Tampa against BP.
He is a lifetime member of the prestigious Inner Circle of Advocates – the 100 best plaintiffs trial lawyers in the country. He has been selected by the National Law Journal as one of Florida’s top litigators. He has been recognized as Trial Lawyer of the Year by several local and national organizations. In 2016, he was inducted into The National Trial Lawyers’ Hall of Fame. During his career, he has obtained a number of landmark accomplishments including a $216 million jury verdict in a medical negligence case which remains the largest such verdict in the history of Florida. During the course of his career thus far, he has obtained more than 250 verdicts and settlements of $1 million or more, including a $13 billion settlement with Big Tobacco, several 9-figure results, and numerous 8-figure results, including a $64 million verdict in a premises liability case in 2015.
In addition to his legal accomplishments, he is deeply involved in giving back through his charitable work. As Chairman of the Board of The Yerrid Foundation (which is self-funded), he has donated millions of dollars to a number of worthy causes, many of which focus on helping children. He has been active for most of his professional career as a major donor to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation, Make-a-Wish Foundation, the Children’s Cancer Center, 1Voice Foundation, Special Olympics, the Ronald McDonald House, and is the primary sponsor of the annual Tampa Fights Cancer Week.
