Vintage fashion keeps coming back around, one-of-a-kind furniture beats anything from a big-box store, and every purchase keeps something out of a landfill. From Ybor City’s decades-old vintage shops to South Tampa’s designer resale boutiques and the charity thrift stores that give back to the community, here’s where to hunt for your next great find.
Vintage Clothing and Boutiques
La France

A fixture on Seventh Avenue since 1974, La France is packed floor to ceiling with vintage and reproduction clothing spanning the 1800s through the 1990s, from Victorian blouses and flapper dresses to disco jumpsuits and leather jackets. Hats, corsets and kimonos fill in the gaps, which makes it the go-to stop for Gasparilla pirate gear, costumes and one-of-a-kind prom looks. Give yourself time; this is not a quick in-and-out.
Guava City Vintage

This mother-daughter shop north of Seminole Heights mixes vintage clothing, home decor and antiques with a vintage bridal section stocked with gowns and veils. Its expanded maker space adds work from local artists and vendors, with plenty of pieces priced under $50.
The Far Forest

Part vintage shop, part used bookstore and part tiny music venue, The Far Forest is a Seminole Heights favorite for hand-picked vintage clothing, books, vinyl and mid-century furniture. Check its calendar before you go; the shop hosts intimate concerts.
Valhalla Resale

Valhalla puts a modern spin on resale with a women’s clothing membership: borrow pieces with no due dates, get styling help and save on purchases. You can also shop the racks outright or trade in your own clothes for store credit.

Schiller’s Architectural & Design Salvage

Doors, stained glass, clawfoot tubs, columns, lighting and heart-pine flooring rescued from historic buildings fill this salvage yard, along with a large nautical collection of portholes, bells and anchors. It’s open Saturdays and by appointment.

Vintage Marché

Billed as Tampa Bay’s largest monthly vintage market, Vintage Marché brings dozens of vendors to about 15,000 square feet on the first weekend of each month, with the whole floor restaged every time. Friday night’s “First Dibs” shopping is ticketed; Saturday and Sunday are free.
ARTpool Gallery Boutique

Open since 2008, this family-run boutique specializes in vintage clothing from the 1920s through the 1970s, plus hats and handmade jewelry, with a record shop right next door.
Tips for Thrifting in Tampa Bay
- Go early on weekdays. Racks are fuller and aisles are quieter before the weekend rush. Ask staff which days they restock.
- Learn the sales. Many stores run color-tag discounts, senior and military days, loyalty programs or big seasonal sales. Follow your favorites on social media to catch them.
- Check the calendar. Some of the best vintage markets open only on certain weekends, so confirm hours before you make the drive.
- Plan a neighborhood crawl. North Florida Avenue in Seminole Heights, Seventh Avenue in Ybor City and the MacDill, Henderson and Kennedy corridors in South Tampa each pack several shops close together.
- Sell or trade before you shop. Buy-sell-trade stores pay cash or more in store credit for clean, in-season items. Call ahead to ask when buyers are available.
- Inspect for Florida wear. Humidity can be hard on leather, wood and upholstery, so check for mildew, warping and musty smells before buying.
- Bring a tape measure. Know the size of your space and your vehicle before falling for a dresser, and ask whether the shop will hold or deliver larger pieces.
- Shop early for Gasparilla and Halloween. Pirate gear and vintage costumes go fast in the weeks before each event.
- Donate what you don’t need. Several charity thrift stores schedule free pickups for furniture and large items.
