Founded in 2019 by Heydi Acuna, Mercy Full Project (MFP) is a nonprofit animal rescue organization that’s become one of the city’s most successful pet shelters, supported by over 100 volunteers. Since its inception, the organization, which operates as a foster-based rescue group, has facilitated the adoption of more than 1,400 animals, with adoption rates nearly doubling each year.
With the growing intake of animals, MFP faces rising medical expenses. In 2023, the organization spent over $150,000 in veterinary costs, including spaying and neutering more than 680 dogs. Financial assistance is sought to help alleviate this burden and continue providing care for animals in need.
MFP also supports the community by donating over 60,000 pounds of food for hurricane relief efforts and distributing approximately 10,000 pounds of pet food monthly through programs like ACC and the ICNA food pantry. Acuna’s work at MFP has earned her the Semilla Award and media recognition from the Tampa Bay Times, ABC Action News Tampa, and NBC News.
