As a first-generation college graduate, Melanie Henry has always been a risk taker. When she first walked through the door of a Rukus Cycling Studio, she felt called to the brand.
After 23 years in Corporate America, she resolved to realize her dream of entrepreneurship. Sparkman Wharf is the first Rukus location in Tampa and is unique to the cycle scene.
The state-of-the-art cycling studio concept is based on advanced technology, with heart rate monitors to help clients track their progress with data in real time.
“My husband and I chose Rukus because the brand is like no other,” says Henry. “As soon as you walk through the door you feel like you are in a premier fitness studio.”
After class, cyclists can pop over to the Wharf for a healthy snack or lounge in the beautiful green space. Henry knew the location would be perfect for her new venture.
“I have endured many challenges: I have been passed up for promotions and endured lay-offs,” reports Henry. “As a Hispanic woman, I don’t feel like I have always been recognized for my work. My dream is to inspire little girls to achieve their dreams.”
