In the heart of historic Hyde Park, Jade Timmerman of JNT Interiors sought to breathe new life into a historic bungalow, preserving its aged character and rich heritage, while embracing modern elements for her clients–a busy and active young family of five.

The project was started in 2019. The formerly 2,500 square-foot historic home was reworked to bring the total living space up to 5,200 square feet for a 2022 move in date. Two stories, five bedrooms, five and a half baths and a two-car garage accommodate the young couple and their littles.

Enlisting Timmerman’s expertise, the family was able to achieve a ‘forever family home’ that accommodates both their active lifestyle along with cherished family heirlooms and antiques that will be passed down to the next generation.

For the project, Timmerman drew inspiration from Southern homes. “The south embodies warmth and richness,” she says. “I wanted to bring a sense of family and togetherness.”

As such, one of her elements of this project is its cohesion.”Each room has its unique elements and feeling, but it all makes sense as one moves through the home,” she shares. “Everything works in alignment and harmony.”

The home’s original fireplace is tastefully refinished in Benjamin Moore’s Stormy Monday to harmonize with the walls. Replacing the original stone, a slab of Nero Marquina marble graces the hearth. A custom-made Rowe loveseat is enveloped in sumptuous charcoal performance velvet.
This Hyde Park bungalow boasts an inviting sunroom with an outdoor fireplace adorned with sophisticated black herringbone tile. Pops of blue and green add a natural energy and brightness to the space, which is complemented by cozy faux wicker chairs and an outdoor-friendly dining table, perfect for unwinding in front of the television after dark.
“Custom-painted inset cabinetry with walnut wood hardware add a touch of warmth to the space,” says Timmerman, describing the bar.
“For the laundry room, I used zellige tile in checkerboard pattern with inset stars,” says Timmerman. “Zellige tile is a Moroccan-style tile. It is all hand cut and hand glazed so no 2 tiles are exactly alike.”
An ornate marble mosaic floor, crystal chandelier and Waterworks bathtub are complemented by custom white oak cabinets
Timmerman effortlessly harmonizes the old and the new with her Southern-inspired design, evidenced in this master bath.
