A resort-style landscape sets the tone for this reimagined exterior, featuring a pull-around driveway, custom lighted fountain, and brick entry framed by textured tabby stucco. A foyer anchors the design, while an enclosed third-floor office with an open balcony and swing adds charm and a view from above.

After completing their first full-home renovation on Bayshore Boulevard in 2017, Nick Friedman — co-founder of College Hunks Hauling Junk & Moving — and his wife, Jen, took on a second ambitious project, this time in Beach Park’s waterfront “Pirates Cove.” The couple envisioned a home that could balance elegant entertaining with everyday life for their family of six.

Completed in 2024, the three-story remodel and addition was a collaboration between the Friedmans and interior designer Jana E. Bryan, principal designer of Jana Elizabeth Design House. The result: a home that blends five-star resort touches with warmth, comfort and personal meaning.

What started as a modest renovation quickly evolved into a full-scale transformation. Major structural changes included moving the front entrance for a grander arrival and replacing the rear wall with folding glass doors that open to water views. Additions included a cabana room, extra bedrooms, an upstairs theater and a standout space: an enclosed widow’s walk, now a think tank office with sweeping 360-degree views of Tampa.

Neutral tones ground the main living areas, while the kids’ rooms burst with color and personality. Natural materials like marble, oak and pecky cypress, paired with warm lighting and hand-painted art, create a timeless base. Bold geometry — including a dodecagon-shaped metal and glass staircase — along with unique wallpapers and rich textures, add visual interest.

Influenced by their travels, the couple sought a resort-like feel, achieved with heated bathroom floors, backlit stone stairs, a tea and juice bar and a luggage elevator.

A striking addition to the home, the foyer features a custom metal and glass front door, marble flooring with brass inlay, a lacquered ceiling and glass-beaded wallpaper—topped by a new theater room above.

In the family room, repurposed pecky cypress beams and a red oak tambour fireplace with blackened zinc surround add warmth and texture.
