A picture shows a 14-year-old Dallas Buchanan standing beside a rustbucket ’56 Chevy Bel Air. Dr. Buchanan still owns that car, but without the rust. It’s now a gleaming black-and-white beauty with sparkling chrome and a Corvette LS3 engine punching out 480 horsepower.
Buchanan and his father worked on the car as he went through college and medical school, sometimes trading his accountant father’s work for bodywork. A Dakota Digital dash and shaved door handles with keyless entry update the look.
Named Jolene by Buchanan’s wife for the Dolly Parton lyric “Please don’t take my man,” he drives it several times a week, enjoying frequent honks and waves.
