Amalie Arena Gets a New Name
The home of the Tampa Bay Lightning, known as Amalie Arena since 2014, will be renamed Benchmark International Arena. The naming-rights deal with the Tampa-based mergers and acquisitions firm, which has 14 offices in 10 countries across three continents, includes $3 million in joint nonprofit contributions to benefit the Tampa Bay community.

NASCAR Will Debut at the Grand Prix of St. Pete in 2026
NASCAR will make its St. Petersburg debut in 2026 when the Craftsman Truck Series races downtown during the Grand Prix weekend. The inaugural race is set for Saturday, Feb. 28, on the 1.8-mile waterfront course. With IndyCar and NASCAR Trucks now sharing the spotlight, the Grand Prix becomes a rare double showcase of two of America’s top racing series.

Tampa Bay Rowdies to Play 1 More Year at St. Petersburg’s Al Lang Stadium
The Tampa Bay Rowdies will stay at their downtown St. Petersburg stadium for at least another year under an agreement running through Nov. 30, 2026. The future home of the minor league soccer team, owned by the Tampa Bay Rays, remains uncertain as a sale of both franchises nears completion. If the teams relocate to Hillsborough County, St. Petersburg could advance plans to redevelop the waterfront to better connect the Mahaffey Theater and Salvador Dalí Museum.  

FDOT Kicks off $340 Million I-275 Project in Pinellas County
The Florida Department of Transportation has started a $340 million expansion of Interstate 275 in Pinellas County. The project covers 7.5 miles, widening the highway from north of 38th Avenue N. to north of Fourth Street N. and adding tolled express lanes in both directions from south of Gandy Boulevard to north of Fourth Street N. Construction is expected to finish in late 2030.
