A trip to the emergency room for a sudden injury or illness can be an overwhelming and sometimes downright terrifying experience, so Dr. Carlos Smith does what he can to make the patient experience as comfortable as possible. “I strive to make sure my patients feel as though they are the only patient in the emergency room,” Dr. Smith says. “I want to make sure that, when they leave, they fully understand not only their diagnosis but also the results of the examinations and my thoughts.”
A diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Smith practices in the emergency department of St. Joseph’s Hospital. Outside of his emergency medicine duties, Dr. Smith is the medical director of the worldwide air ambulance company Jet ICU, a team physician for the New York Yankees and a neurotrauma consultant for the National Football League. Dr. Smith continues to look for different ways to care for his community.
