While the specialty of pain management used to focus on taking discomfort away from patients, Dr. Rodney Rodrigo says there is now much more emphasis on improving patients’ function. “Not only are we taking patients’ pain away, we are increasing their function and improving their quality of life,” Dr. Rodrigo says.
Dr. Rodrigo takes a multidisciplinary, non-opioid approach to treating musculoskeletal pain, with potential treatment options including physical therapy, massage, acupuncture, injections (like PRP and stem cells) and radiofrequency ablation. “The name of our practice is Interventional Pain Specialists, and we did that on purpose,” says Dr. Rodrigo, who is dual board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and pain management. “We want to take the emphasis off medication.”
