Guest bathrooms and non-primary bathrooms are the second-most frequently updated rooms, right after kitchens, according to Houzz.com. And as any realtor will tell you, kitchens and bathrooms can make or break a potential sale.
If you’re aiming to boost your home’s value or simply want to refresh your space, certain design elements and trends can transform a bathroom from bleak to chic.
Jamie Gasparovic, from the boutique interior design firm Studio Gaspo, has crafted numerous bathrooms throughout her career so she’s well-versed in recognizing what’s hot and what’s not in bathroom design. According to Gasparovic, large-scale lighting fixtures, especially those with texture, are a major trend. They not only create a bold statement but also add warmth to spaces that often feature harsh lines and cold materials.
“Warm tones are definitely big right now too,” Gasparovic says. “Gone are the days of stark white subway tile and Carrara marble. I see a lot of moodier tones, muddied colors and brown undertones.”
Texture is another key trend, especially in tile design.
“Tiles with variation, texture or a handmade look are becoming more and more prominent and give a bathroom that added layer of dimension and interest that can sometimes be lacking,” she says.
Even small spaces like half-baths can benefit from a stylish makeover.
“Going for some drama in a powder room, whether with bold wallpaper, a distinct faucet or a statement tile, is becoming very popular. It’s a fun space to think outside of the box and impress your guests,” she adds.
Whether you’re planning a complete renovation or a simple update, by embracing these trends, you can create a bathroom that not only meets your practical needs but also provides a stylish retreat.
