As Tampa Bay’s fitness culture continues to evolve, more locals are stepping outside the traditional gym setting in search of something deeper than a workout. Across Tampa and St. Petersburg, outdoor fitness communities are blending movement, fresh air and human connection, turning everything from beaches to staircases into gathering spaces that support both physical and mental well-being.

At Friday Stairs, participants move through a professionally led HIIT-style workout featuring stair runs, endurance intervals, bodyweight strength training, conditioning drills and explosive movements designed to challenge both physical and mental stamina. Friday Stairs

What started as a small grassroots workout quickly turned into one of downtown Tampa’s most popular weekly fitness gatherings — and one of the best ways to catch the sunrise over the city skyline. Every Friday at 7 a.m., more than 200 people head to the Tampa Convention Center stairs for Friday Stairs, a free community workout led by local fitness trainer and influencer Jovany Ruiz and his team of professional trainers. The workout blends high-intensity stair runs with strength and conditioning exercises like burpees, squat jumps, bear crawls and partner carries.

“We didn’t want fitness to feel exclusive,” organizers share. “By removing the financial barrier, we create a gateway for people to reconnect with themselves, with movement and with community in a genuine way.”

FIT4MOM Mommy & Me Workout

For Tampa Bay moms balancing fitness and family life, FIT4MOM Tampa Bay offers a workout experience designed with motherhood in mind. Unlike traditional gyms or studios, the outdoor stroller-based fitness classes welcome babies and children alongside their moms.

The classes combine prenatal- and postnatal-safe workouts with intentional opportunities for connection through partner exercises, playdates and family-focused events.

“We help moms find the support they need to love and take care of their bodies, find the friends they are searching for and find a village for their kids and family in the process,” says owner Brianna Wilkerson.

Nava Yoga Studio

Blending movement, mindfulness and the natural beauty of Florida’s Gulf Coast, Nava Yoga Studio offers a welcoming space for students to reconnect with both body and breath. From gentle and restorative yoga to invigorating power flows, warm classes, yin, ashtanga, meditation and beach yoga, Nava creates space for every experience level and energy season.

Classes take place both inside the serene studio space in St. Petersburg and outdoors along the shoreline of Pass-a-Grille Beach, where movement unfolds against the backdrop of salt air, sunshine and the rhythm of the Gulf.

Lotus Pond

Tucked beneath a canopy of trees on 4.5 lush acres, Lotus Pond Yoga feels less like a studio and more like a sanctuary. Designed as a space for movement, stillness and meaningful connection, Lotus Pond offers daily yoga and meditation classes alongside retreats, teacher trainings and heart-centered community events that invite students to slow down and reconnect with themselves.

The experience extends beyond the mat. Guests are encouraged to wander through peaceful gardens, pause beside the pond or sway gently in a hammock beneath the trees as the outside world softens into the background.

“Every detail of the property feels intentionally grounded in presence, ease and restoration,” says longtime client and board-certified behavioral analyst Anna Schott.
