After developing the business through catering, festivals and markets, Jimmy Nuñez opened his first location on Ybor City’s 17th Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, in December. “Opening a brick-and-mortar seemed like the only logical decision to keep up with our demand,” Nuñez says. “The outdoor seating, walk-up window and brightly colored building was the exact vibe we were looking for. After walking around Ybor and meeting all of the locals and business owners, the outpouring of support and love was what really sealed the deal.” Jimmy’s standard taco selections include al pastor, carne asada and chicken, plus other options like quesadillas and tortas. Nuñez says their most popular item is the shrimp taco, prepared either blackened with Cajun remoulade and cilantro, or grilled with tropical mango salsa, both on handmade blue corn tortillas. “My mother, Maria, has been cooking these recipes since she was a small girl with her grandmother,” Nuñez says. “We started out in Los Angeles, California, back in 1988, and our ingredients and quality have never changed.”
