Penelope T is celebrating its 15th anniversary next year. Why do you think the store has had so much success in South Tampa over the years?
I can’t believe it’s been that long! Time has flown by. We give credit for every bit of success to the people we have met along the way — our amazing customers and loyal staff over the years. From the beginning we have been so fortunate to meet so many supportive people who have been a part of our growth in both big and small ways. We are beyond grateful for them all.
Where do you find inspiration for the clothes and accessories you carry at Penelope T?
We get a lot of inspiration from seeing people out and about, both locally and while traveling, also from various blogs, magazines and movies.
This is our Health, Beauty and Fitness Edition. Where do you go in South Tampa to feel more healthy, beautiful and fit?
Tampa has so many amazing places, and I’m so in awe of the customers I know who own and run these businesses! It would take two pages to list them all, but we are lucky enough to be within walking distance of a few of my favorites. The Parlour Salon right next door is my go-to for hair. The owner Analisa was our very first customer. Kelly Jimenez (owner of KJ Skinetics, also in our building) does fantastic facials, and Amanda Rustmann in the building next door is the eyebrow guru!
Where is your favorite place for a healthy meal in South Tampa?
SoHo Sushi for some sort of spicy tuna concoction or Fresh Kitchen for a bowl.
Where do you like to head for a night out with the girls?
Since I have a new baby, I don’t get out much these days, but if I do make it past 8 p.m., then I’ll do dinner at either Pane Rustica, Cru Cellars or Edison and drinks at CW’s Gin Joint or M.Bird [at Armature Works].
What is your favorite South Tampa breakfast or brunch spot?
Boca or Pinky’s! I actually love the frittata at both places.
Outside of Penelope T, what are your favorite South Tampa boutiques?
KT Janes always has great gifts for different occasions, Roost is full of amazing home decor finds, and I love the unique pieces at the store in Oxford Exchange. For kids’ gear, I like Seedlings. Also, when I had my dogs, Downtown Dogs in Hyde Park Village was my go-to. There are so many great retail spots here in Tampa that it’s hard to think of them all!
Where do you take guests from out of town to show off Tampa?
I love to park downtown and walk or ride bikes along the river from the park to Armature Works, stopping along the way at various places to eat and drink.
What is your favorite South Tampa hidden gem?
I guess it’s not exactly hidden, but I love the Tampa Theatre. I think it’s so beautiful, and they always show great movies. Plus, they have the best popcorn!
