Tampa Bay is blessed with water. And when it comes to fishing, we’re blessed with every type of water that fish like to inhabit. Whether it is under one of our numerous bridges; along our beautifully green mangrove shorelines; on the flat waters of the bay; or out in the gulf, Tampa Bay has multiple options for those of us who enjoy the pursuit of fishing. Our waters are also loaded with many species of fish, including game fish and aquarium-looking tropical fish — as well as two of our most iconic marine mammals, bottlenose dolphins and manatees.

Just as each fishing trip is a unique journey, this fishing report will also be a journey as we investigate and report the vast amount of information that makes up the Tampa Bay fishing story. Fishing our waters is an experience that changes daily. And though we do have seasons and cycles of how fish move in and around our waters, our mission is to give you the knowledge to get those fish to bite the bait more routinely.

Currently, we are in a fall transition into winter. This means we will be incorporating shrimp into our live bait options along with our small bait fish. The summer and fall fish species will begin to migrate and hunker down in the warm bottom waters for the winter, and the winter species will begin to arrive and thrive — just like our feathered friends from the north.

Around February, fishing will move into our spring/summer season. I would consider this time to be the most desirable time of the year to fish. It’s a new year and a new beginning. Fresh bait, cool water and, most importantly, hungry fish. These conditions give the angler the advantage.

Fishing is just like any other discipline: the more you practice the better you get. We call it “hook time.” In the reports to come, I’m excited to get into great detail about the entire fishing experience on our waters. Tampa Bay has a lot to offer. We will be investigating boats, tackle, live baits, fish cleaning, fish species, fishing areas, depths of water and much more. The fantastic news is that fishing opportunities in and around Tampa Bay are truly endless.

We do not take for granted the gift we have been given to live in a coastal city with a thriving fishery. And yes, blessed with water.

Assuring you are at the best of attention at all times. To book your next adventure, call our Fishing Charters Hotline, or to learn more, visit us online.
