Jeni’s Ice Cream

The popular Jeni’s Ice Cream will open two locations in Downtown Tampa — one at Sparkman Wharf and one at The Pearl in Tampa Heights — this summer. These will be Jeni’s first Florida ice cream shops, serving up cult-favorite flavors like brambleberry crisp and brown almond butter brittle.

Cigar City Brewing

Two Tampa craft beer breweries were named to Ratebeer.com’s list of the best breweries in the world. Cigar City Brewing, with taprooms in Northwest Tampa and at Amalie Arena, placed fifth on the list, while Angry Chair Brewing, located in Seminole Heights, ranked No. 78.

Catrinas Tacos and Tequila

Catrinas Tacos and Tequila has reopened in West Tampa on North Howard Avenue. Formerly in Palma Ceia, Catrinas focuses on authentic Mexican dishes like tacos on handmade tortillas, guacamole, molcajete and tamales. Service is order-at-the-counter, and alcohol (including margaritas) is coming soon.

Shake Shack

Tampa Bay’s first Shake Shack will open at Midtown Tampa, developer Bromley Companies announced. Shake Shack first opened in New York City’s Madison Square Park and has become famous for its burgers, chicken sandwiches, crinkle-cut fries and frozen custard. The restaurant will be located at Midtown’s entrance off Cypress Street and is expected to open with the completion of the project’s first phase in early 2021.

Sucré Table

Pastry chef Brenda Villacorta is opening the bakery Sucré Table in the former Take Three Café space on West Kennedy Boulevard this spring. Villacorta has competed on a number of Food Network shows, including Halloween Baking Championship and Cake Wars and has  trained at Michelin-star restaurants like Le Bernardin and Dominique Ansel Bakery in New York City.

Related Group

The Miami-based Related Group has filed plans to build two new luxury condo towers on Bayshore Boulevard. According to Related’s plans, the towers would stand 26 and 27 stories tall, with a total of 168 condos. Related estimates that prices for most condos would range from $1.5 million to $3 million, with an estimated completion date of 2024 for one tower and 2028 for the other.

Embarc Collective

Embarc Collective, the startup hub backed by Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik, recently opened its headquarters in a century-old, 32,000-square-foot warehouse on downtown’s East Whiting Street. The nonprofit is currently working with 43 startups, offering hands-on support, guidance and coaching from Embarc’s specialists and Executive Advisors to help the companies grow and scale.
