Keeping the convenience store’s original sign and not much else, Rooster & the Till’s Ty Rodriguez and chef Ferrell Alvarez took their talents just down the street to open the new Nebraska Mini-Mart. With ping-pong tables, shuffleboards and bocce ball courts, the spot fits right into the recent boom of food-and-game venues that have popped up across the Tampa Bay area. Rodriguez and Alvarez have even saved you a Google. The rules for shuffle and bocce (which are half-off to play until 5 p.m. every day) can be found right on Nebraska Mini- Mart’s website.
The eats are playful twists on the classics you enjoyed at your favorite childhood bowling alley; think chicken wings with fried garlic and Malaysian chili paste, a Fort McCoy Farms hot dog with red onion agrodolce and celery root slaw, or charred corn with ancho, lime, crema and cotija cheese. Drink options go beyond the frosé with frozen piña coladas and vermouth rickeys (and, yes, a frozen rosé sangria), plus wine by the glass and beer.
