They had it all figured out, says Ciara Jones. Jones and her husband, Jay (pictured at left), co-founded the new Woven Water Brewing Co. with Niki and Eric Childs. They always knew the brewery was meant to be in Tampa Heights. But for a long time, no suitable buildings were available. Suddenly, a century-old storefront at 456 Columbus Drive opened up, and the team moved quickly. “It came on the market right when we thought we wouldn’t see this dream come to light,” Jones says. Then, toward the end of construction in March, bars across the country were shuttered indefinitely. “We planned for nearly all the worst-case scenarios when it came to opening Woven Water. What we couldn’t have known to plan for was this pandemic.”
While Woven Water just opened their taproom on October 17, they began to-go sales of its brews in late August. Some of the brewery’s core beers include the Revenant, a fruited sour ale with coffee (“You’ll be pleasantly surprised” by the taste, Jones says) and Chromatic, a double American IPA. They’ve also done a number of limited release specialty beers, a few hard seltzers, and collaborations with nearby breweries like Hidden Springs Ale Works. Jones explains that creating a sense of community with other beer lovers and establishing a “third space” outside of work and home for people to enjoy is what Woven Water is all about. “Our guests have carried us and supported us like we couldn’t have imagined,” she says. “We opened Woven Water with the community in mind and the response we’ve gotten so far from that very same community is something we are truly grateful for.”
