Bat Dog For The Clearwater Threshers Retires
Layla, a 13-year-old labrador, has officially retired as the Clearwater Threshers’ bat dog. For the last six years, Layla fetched baseball bats for the players, but the minor league team’s Christmas in July special served as her last game. While Layla is now retired, her little sister, Lucy, was announced as her official replacement.
Clearwater Athlete Breaks World Record At Summer Olympics
Clearwater native, Bobby Finke, secured an Olympic gold in the men’s 1500-meter freestyle swim on the last day of swimming events of the Paris Olympics. In addition to winning the gold, he also broke a world record by finishing the race in 14:30.67.
Morean Arts Center Plans Expansion
The Morean Arts Center is looking to expand with a new five-story state-of-the-art building. The plans call for demolishing the center’s current 27,000-square-foot facility on Central Avenue for the new structure, which would contain more gallery space, offices, parking and an expanded Chihuly Collection.
Massive Sports Entertainment Venue Coming To St. Pete
St. Pete Athletic Paddle & Social Club has signed a lease to develop a 45,000-square-foot sports entertainment venue inside The Factory in the Warehouse Arts District. The project, which is expected to be completed in 2025, will feature 14 indoor pickleball courts, padel courts, table tennis, a full-service restaurant and a cocktail bar.
Over 80 Tampa Bay Area Businesses Make Inc. 5000 List
The 2024 Inc. 5000 list, which tracks the fastest-growing private businesses in the U.S., included more than 80 companies from the Tampa Bay area, such as KashKick, Superfan Live and StatPearls. The rankings, which are based on a three-year revenue growth, saw Tampa Bay companies with a median growth of 273%, contributing to over $4 billion in revenue, and the addition of 8,819 jobs.
