As the only triple board-certified surgeon in Florida, Dr. Karthik Sugumaran specializes in several areas of surgery and medicine, including areas such as weight loss, bariatric surgery and critical care. His comprehensive weight loss clinic offers a range of weight loss procedures and medications. During his studies, he completed dual fellowships at the University of Miami in advanced GI and minimally invasive surgery, as well as at Washington University in Trauma and Critical Care. Here, he recognized the gap in understanding of critical care in ill, obese patients. He was the first graduate of Washington University to complete the ELSO ECMO practitioner certification.

“I treat my patients like I treat my family and how I’d want my family treated,” Dr. Sugumaran says. He finds that the biggest reward in his career is providing care for people every day, assisting them with cancer, weight loss journeys and acute surgical issues. No matter where life takes them, he believes in the importance of seeing patients and their families stay well and happy after their visits.
