Sunshine Season: A Tampa Bay Summer Bucket List

Longer days, salty air and sunset skies painted in sherbet shades. Summer in Tampa Bay is less about rushing through a checklist and more about savoring the city slowly. Whether you’re craving coastal adventure, cultural immersion, sweet treats or a spontaneous night out, these local favorites deserve a spot on your seasonal itinerary.

Surrealism & Waterfront Strolls in St. Pete
The Dalí Museum, St. Petersburg

Spend an afternoon wandering through the dreamlike galleries of The Dalí Museum in downtown St. Petersburg. Home to one of the most extensive Salvador Dalí collections in the world, the museum blends surrealist masterpieces with immersive digital exhibits and architecture that feels like art itself. Afterward, stroll the waterfront, bar-hop down Beach Drive and watch sailboats drift across Tampa Bay.

Dive Into an Underwater Escape
The Florida Aquarium, Tampa

For a cool retreat from Florida’s summer heat, head to The Florida Aquarium in Channelside. From moon jellyfish displays to playful river otters and immersive coral reef habitats, the aquarium offers an experience that feels equal parts educational and escapist. Don’t miss the fun splash pad outside. It’s one of those rare attractions equally loved by kids, couples and curious adults looking for a midday reset. Afterward, walk over to Sparkman Wharf to enjoy the beer garden or some ice cream.

Visit a Different Local Ice Cream Shop Every Week This Summer
Both Tampa and St. Petersburg

Tampa Bay’s ice cream scene has become an experience of its own. Start with inventive, small-batch flavors at Chill Bros. Scoop Shop in various locations across the bay, where nostalgic favorites meet creative seasonal combinations.

Grab the Giant Cone—a 5-pound swirl of signature soft serve—at Hampton Chocolate Factory, or opt for a crafted sundae instead. Bring your pup to Bo’s Ice Cream for a sweet treat and a pup cup, or get a taste of nostalgia at Dairy Joy, which has been family-owned and operated since 1958.

Over in St. Petersburg, Small Batch Creamery and Paciugo Gelato & Caffè serve scratch-made ice cream and gelato, respectively. Enjoy homemade waffle cones at Larry’s Ice Cream & Gelatos, a St. Pete Beach staple since 1984. For a dairy-free option, head to Plant Love Ice Cream.

Catch a Rays Game Under the Dome
Tropicana Field | St. Petersburg

Nothing says Florida summer quite like baseball and cold beer. Watching the Tampa Bay Rays play offers a welcome break from the heat while still delivering all the classic summer nostalgia: hot dogs, seventh-inning stretches and cheering crowds. Even casual baseball fans will appreciate the electric energy of game night in St. Pete.

A Nature Escape at Fort De Soto
Fort De Soto Park
| St. Petersburg
When locals want a true Florida beach day, they head to Fort De Soto Park. With powdery sand, calm Gulf waters, kayaking trails, fishing piers and historic fort ruins, it feels worlds away from city life. Pack a cooler, rent bikes and stay through sunset; the golden-hour views alone are worth the drive.

Say Yes to Cheese-Making Night
Cheeseology | Tampa

For a summer outing that feels delightfully unexpected, book a class at Cheeseology in Ybor City. Equal parts culinary experience and social night out, the concept allows guests to craft fresh cheeses and cannoli while sipping wine and learning the art behind the process. It’s interactive, unique and surprisingly therapeutic.

Slow Down at a Tea House
Noisy Crane Tea House
| Tampa
Hidden along South Howard Avenue sits one of Tampa’s hidden gems: Noisy Crane Tea House. Specializing in fine Asian teas served traditionally, this intimate tea experience invites guests to slow down and savor every steep, from tea tastings to private events. Think less grab-and-go caffeine run, more mindful ritual. It’s the kind of quiet luxury summer afternoons were made for.

Take a Tiki Boat Ride
Cruisin Tikis | Tampa and St. Petersburg
Trade traffic for tiki torches with a floating cruise through Clearwater, St. Pete or Tampa Bay. Whether you are celebrating with friends or simply chasing sunset views, these tropical-style boat rides blend music, cocktails and waterfront scenery into one unforgettable Florida experience. Bring your own beverages and allow a coast guard-licensed captain to take you and your crew on an unforgettable cruise!
Enjoy the Tampa Riverwalk at Sunset
Tampa Riverwalk | Tampa
As the sun dips behind the skyline, the Tampa Riverwalk transforms into one of the city’s most scenic evening escapes. Stretching along the Hillsborough River, the walk offers waterfront views, glowing city lights, public art and endless options for dining, cocktails and people-watching.
Hop on the Cross-Bay Ferry to St. Petersburg
Cross-Bay Ferry | Tampa to St. Petersburg
Skip the highway and arrive by water aboard the Cross-Bay Ferry connecting downtown Tampa and St. Petersburg. The ride itself becomes part of the experience, offering panoramic bay views, sea breezes and a relaxing way to explore two of Tampa Bay’s most vibrant downtown districts.
