Tampa International Airport (TPA) continues to reign as one of the best airports in the country. In tandem with its expansion projects and revitalized spaces, TPA has unveiled commissioned projects by local and international artists, boosting its public art collection. Recent additions include the vivid mosaic “Florida Sunset” by artist Jason Middlebrook installed in the Blue Express Curbside Building; the exquisite 70-foot long tapestry “Palimpsest” by Nick Cave adorning the walls of the Rental Car Building; and Matthew Mazzotta’s beloved monumental flamingo sculpture that gently bows to visitors in the Main Terminal. Soo Sunny Park’s installation “Nebula,” located in the SkyCenter atrium, is one of the only artworks visible from outside the airport. Comprised of stainless steel and acrylic panels, the organic form captures the light and shines with kaleidoscopic color. Visible from Interstate 275 as one enters the airport, Park’s “Nebula” is a jewel in TPA’s crown.

Joanna Robotham is the Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Tampa Museum of Art.
